Good Morning Haldimand County!

Here's What's Happening in Haldimand County This Weekend

If you were planning to sit quietly at home this weekend, Haldimand County has other ideas.

This is one of those weekends when the events calendar looks less like a calendar and more like the entire county collectively decided we should all leave the house. Jarvis Cornfest is back, bringing a full weekend of activities to town, while Dunnville has motorcycles, classic cars, fishing, yard sales, live music and enough going on that you may need to start making logistical decisions.

Caledonia isn’t exactly taking the weekend off either. Hooves & Grooves is raising money for Whispering Hearts Horse Rescue, the sunflower field is opening, markets and yard sales are popping up, and Hammer Hogs has apparently decided one form of entertainment per weekend is insufficient.

Over in Cayuga, Toronto Motorsports Park has a busy few days of racing ahead, while things get considerably quieter at Card Bingo at the Legion. Choose your preferred level of horsepower.

There’s more happening around Fisherville, Selkirk and South Cayuga, including horseshoes, live music, farm tours, painting and a horse show. Hagersville has a full-day craft event Saturday, while the Legion marks 100 years of the Royal Canadian Legion in Canada with live music from Route 6.

And if you feel like crossing the county line, Port Dover has picked this particular weekend to host the South Coast Jazz & World Music Festival, Summer Festival and Art in the Park. Apparently leaving room to park was not part of the planning process.

So yes, it’s busy.

Scroll down, make your plans and send this newsletter to the person who always texts you Saturday afternoon asking, “Is there anything going on today?”

For once, you can answer: Where would you like me to start?

Jarvis / Nanticoke / Townsend

It’s Jarvis Cornfest weekend, which means Jarvis has officially cancelled all plans that don’t involve corn, music or running into everyone you’ve ever met.

The Ladies of Country Dance Party gets Cornfest moving Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jarvis Community Centre. Cowboy boots are not mandatory, but this would be a pretty good time to justify owning them.

The Marlin Dupuis Forever 19 Memorial Ride takes place Saturday, meeting at the Townsend Lions Hall before kickstands go up at 11 a.m.
