There’s officially no excuse to sit at home scrolling aimlessly this week. The calendar across Haldimand County is packed, patios are waking up, community groups are back in full swing, and the annual migration toward farmers’ markets, live music, and outdoor events has begun.

This time of year always feels like the county collectively shakes off winter at the exact same moment. One day, everyone’s hibernating, the next day, parking lots are full, lawn chairs are out, and somebody’s asking if you want to join a euchre tournament you absolutely do not have the skill to win.

The best part is how much of it is local. Volunteers, service clubs, small businesses, community organizations, musicians, markets, and local venues are all putting in the work to make sure there’s always something happening nearby. Whether you’re looking to get out for a couple of hours, support a fundraiser, catch up with people you haven’t seen since hockey season, or just avoid cooking dinner one night, there’s plenty going on over the next few days.

This edition is packed with community events, social nights, markets, workshops, recreation, live entertainment, and a few chances to test your luck. It’s the kind of week where you can accidentally make plans three nights in a row without even trying.

Caledonia

The Caledonia Farmers Market opens for the season on Thursday from 2 to 7 pm. Fresh produce, baked goods, local vendors, and the annual tradition of buying way more than you planned.

Local entrepreneurs, business owners, and caffeine enthusiasts gather on Wednesday at 9 am as Haldimand Biz Hive meets at Revival Coffee. Networking feels a lot more manageable with good coffee involved.

Darts fly Thursday at 7 pm at the Caledonia Legion. Precision, confidence, and at least one person insisting they “usually play way better than this.”

The Caledonia Legion doubles down on euchre Thursday with games at 2pm and again at 7pm. Plenty of chances to lose to somebody’s grandmother who’s been quietly dominating for 40 years.

It’s a busy week at Cypress 55+ with yoga and bingo today, tai chi and crafts Wednesday, plus yoga and a cooking class Thursday. Stretching, socializing, and snacks. Tough to argue with that lineup.

Grab the mic on Wednesday at the Caledonia Legion with karaoke running from 3 to 5 pm and again from 7 to 9 pm. Afternoon confidence and evening confidence tend to sound very different.

Cayuga

Take your own car out on the track on Wednesday at 5 pm during open car lapping at Toronto Motorsports Park. Then the Victoria Day weekend action officially kicks off Thursday when the gates open at noon.

Community Living Haldimand is hosting a community tree planting event today from 10 am to 1 pm at 2256 River Rd. Fresh air, a good cause, and lunch included is a pretty decent combo.

Pickleball returns Wednesday at 7:30 pm at the high school with registration through Caledonia Badminton. Equal parts exercise and arguing over whether that ball was actually in.

The Cayuga Legion keeps the competition rolling this week with euchre on Tuesday at 7:30 pm and darts on Wednesday at 7:30 pm. Cards one night, bullseyes the next.

Dunnville

Get creative on Wednesday at Dunnville Craft Emporium during a dreamcatcher-making workshop. A solid midweek excuse to put the phone down and make something with your actual hands for once.

Fresh produce, baked goods, meats, preserves, and market snacks are all waiting as the Dunnville Farmers Market runs today from 2 to 7 pm.

You can now grab Catch the Ace tickets in person, Monday through Saturday, at Julia's Old Fashioned Christmas Charity. One ticket closer to becoming the person suddenly saying, “I guess I should finally book that trip.”

Dinner plans are handled on Wednesday night as Bethany United Church hosts its fish fry from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Call ahead to place your order unless waiting hungrily in line is part of the experience you’re after.

The Dunnville Youth Impact Centre hosts its Run-Walk Scoot-A-Thon today from 3:30 to 7:30 pm. Pick your preferred speed and help support local youth programs while you’re at it.

Try your luck at Catch the Ace on Wednesday at the Dunnville Legion. Tickets are available in person from 4 to 7:40 pm, right up until everyone starts suddenly believing they have a “good feeling” about their number.

The Dunnville Legion keeps the cards flying on Wednesday with euchre at 6:30 pm, then switches gears Thursday night for cornhole. Competitive energy, very different throwing styles.

The Over 60 Euchre Club meets on Thursday from 1:30 to 3:30 pm at the Dunnville Optimist Club. An afternoon of cards, conversation, and keeping score with absolute precision.
