Good morning, Haldimand County!

Here's What's Happening in Haldimand County This Week

September has arrived, which means we’ve officially entered that strange stretch of the year when the calendar says fall is approaching but the weather may still have other plans.

The long weekend is still ahead of us, school is starting, routines are returning and suddenly everyone is expected to remember what day it is again. Fortunately, there’s still plenty happening around Haldimand County this week to make the transition a little less painful.

The first few days of September bring a good mix of familiar weekly favourites and easy reasons to get out of the house. Farmers’ markets are still going strong, classic cars and motorcycles are making the most of the remaining warm evenings, and community clubs have packed their schedules with cards, crafts, fitness, trivia and more.

It’s also a good week for anyone looking for something uncomplicated to do. You don’t need tickets months in advance or an elaborate plan. You can wander through a market, admire some classic cars, join a game of euchre, try your luck at trivia, take in a historic property or find a karaoke microphone and make everyone else question their decision to come out.

And if summer went by without you doing half the things you intended to do, there’s still time. September doesn’t mean we immediately have to retreat indoors and start discussing pumpkins. There are warm evenings left, local places to visit and plenty of opportunities to squeeze a little more out of the season.

As always, we’ve gathered what’s happening around the county over the next few days and sorted it by community so you can quickly find something close to home or an excuse to head somewhere else.

Here’s what’s happening around Haldimand County this week.

Dunnville

Julia’s Charity is giving away a truckload of free, fresh produce today starting at noon. Free groceries tend to disappear considerably faster than groceries you have to pay for.

The Dunnville Farmers Market runs today from 2 to 7 p.m. for fresh produce, local goods and a perfectly reasonable excuse to avoid the grocery store.

The Dunnville Legion has euchre Wednesday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Three hours should be plenty of time to establish who’s lucky and who’s going to complain about their cards.

Julia’s Catch the Ace jackpot has climbed past $12,000. Tickets are available online or at the charity all week, and that jackpot is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.

The International Agricultural Worker Healthcare Van will be at Julia’s Charity Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m., providing healthcare services for international agricultural workers.

The Dunnville Library’s Knitting Club meets Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. Bring your current project and spend the afternoon with people who understand why you own that much yarn.

The Mattress Man

Custom spaces deserve better than “close enough.” The Mattress Man builds made-to-measure mattresses for RVs, trailers, boats, and hard-to-fit spaces. Skip the big-box workaround and get the exact size you need, built locally. Right now, you’ll save the usual 20% customization fee, so custom doesn’t come with a penalty. Bring your measurements, your odd angles, your weird bunk layout… we’ve seen it all and built for it.
