Good Morning, Haldimand County

Here's What's Happening in Haldimand County This Week

September is rolling right along, and apparently Haldimand County didn’t get the memo that things are supposed to quiet down once summer ends.

There’s plenty happening over the next few days, whether you want to network, play cards, hit the farmers market, talk books, learn something new or simply find a good excuse not to cook dinner. Caledonia has a particularly packed couple of days with Speed Networking, a candidate event, a free community dinner, classic cars, the farmers market and an East Coast Kitchen Party and Lobster Boil. That’s quite a range for 48 hours.

Elsewhere, Toronto Motorsports Park has Open Car Lapping in Cayuga, Fisherville has cornhole and Cruise Night, Hagersville has Bike Night with live music, and Dunnville has everything from the farmers market and a blood donor clinic to the Horticultural Society and Reader’s Club. Jarvis is even Rockin’ Through the Decades this afternoon, so there’s no shortage of ways to get out of the house.

This week we’re also sharing our coverage of Haldimand County’s commemoration of the 25th anniversary of September 11. The ceremony in Cayuga brought together emergency services personnel, local officials and members of the community to remember those who lost their lives and recognize the 343 FDNY firefighters who died that day. If you haven’t read the story yet, you’ll find it in this edition.

As always, we’ve rounded up what’s happening across Haldimand County today through Thursday so you don’t have to hunt to figure out what’s going on.

Have a look, make some plans and get out there. September clearly has no intention of being boring.

LOCAL APPLAUSE

Our first Local Applause goes to Peggy in Solid Waste Operations at the Haldimand County Administration Building. Peggy was exceedingly helpful, an absolute delight to deal with and, most importantly, quick to provide actual solutions. Great customer service can make even a garbage-related question a pleasant experience, and Peggy nailed it. Thanks, Peggy!

Every week, we'll shine a light on a local business, organization or employee that went above and beyond. Great service deserves to be noticed, and this is our little way of saying thanks to the people making Haldimand County a better place to live, shop and visit.
