Good Morning, Haldimand County
Here's What's Happening in Haldimand County This Week
Fall has officially arrived, and Haldimand County seems to be responding by filling the calendar with pumpkins, cards, classic cars and enough trivia to finally justify everything you’ve learned that has absolutely no practical application.
Crafternoons are back at several local libraries this week, with rope pumpkins on the agenda in Caledonia, Dunnville and Hagersville. If your house is lacking decorative produce made from hardware-store materials, this is apparently your moment.
Card players have plenty of opportunities to get competitive, with euchre, Hoss and cribbage happening across the county. There’s also trivia at Concession Road Brewing and Haldimand Museums Trivia Night at the Cayuga Legion, plus Plant Bingo at GrandErie Home Hardware. We’re not entirely sure when plants got involved in bingo, but we support their hobbies.
Car lovers can squeeze in the final Cool & Classic Car Night at Scoops Diner Wednesday, Open Car Lapping at Toronto Motorsports Park, and Cruise Night at Three Seasons Thursday. Plank Road’s Bike Night also returns Wednesday with Route 6 providing the music.
Elsewhere, you can check out the B-Pulse event at The Cabin Wellness Clinic, meet Ward 5 and 6 municipal candidates in Dunnville, learn about Project Lifesaver in Caledonia, register for 1st Selkirk BPSA, or let someone else handle dinner at Selkirk’s monthly spaghetti night.
And if none of that appeals to you, there’s karaoke, lawn bowling, cornhole, farmers markets, live music and the start of the Ancaster Fair.
At this point, staying home is going to require considerably more effort than going out.

 | Rock For the Bell TowerRock for the Bell Tower is coming to the Caledonia Riverside Exhibition Centre Friday, October 23, with live music, food and drinks in support of the Caledonia Presbyterian Church bell tower. Gary Rothwell & Band opens the night, followed by The Practically Hip, Canada’s Tragically Hip tribute. Doors open at 6:30, with the event running until 11. Tickets are $30. Come out for a great night supporting a local landmark. |

Caledonia
Crafternoons returns to the Caledonia Library today at 1 p.m. This month’s project is rope pumpkins, because apparently even rope is getting ready for fall.
Cypres 55+ has yoga, bingo and Memory Group today. Wednesday brings tai chi and functional movement for people with Parkinson’s, followed by Dance Fit, yoga and Book Club Thursday.
The Caledonia Grand Trunk Station hosts a genealogy workshop Wednesday at noon. Time to find out exactly which branch of the family tree caused all the trouble.
The Community Support Centre hosts a Project Lifesaver workshop Wednesday at 1 p.m., introducing a program designed to help protect people at risk of wandering.
The Caledonia Legion has cribbage Wednesday at 2 p.m., plus euchre Thursday at 2 and 7 p.m. and darts Thursday at 7 p.m. Plenty of ways to get competitive.
Scoops Diner at the Caledonia Fairgrounds hosts its final Cool & Classic Car Night of the season Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. One last chance to cruise in.
Catch the Ace happens Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Caledonia Legion. Somebody has to find that ace eventually. Might as well be you.
The Caledonia Farmers’ Market is open Thursday from 2 to 7 p.m. Get there before another market season starts disappearing in the rear-view mirror.

Shelley’s hosts High Tea today, with sittings at 11 a.m. and noon. An excellent excuse to drink tea with your pinky feeling important.
The Cayuga Legion has euchre tonight at 7:30 p.m. and darts Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Two nights, two ways to discover just how competitive your neighbours are.
Toronto Motorsports Park has Open Car Lapping Wednesday starting at 4 p.m. Take your car somewhere speeding is actually encouraged.
The Cayuga Book Club meets Thursday at 6 p.m. This month’s selection is Little Eve by Catriona Ward. Creepy book, perfectly respectable library.
Haldimand Museums hosts Trivia Night Thursday at the Cayuga Legion. Doors open at 6 p.m., with trivia at 6:30. Time to discover what useless information was actually useful.

The Selkirk Chamber of Commerce meets Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Selkirk Centennial Community Hall. Local business, community conversation and presumably no cornhole.
Fisherville Lions Club hosts Seniors Hoss Thursday at 1:30 p.m. The cards are dealt. The bragging rights are earned.
Classic cars roll into Three Seasons Ice Cream Parlour Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m., weather permitting. Cars and ice cream remain an undefeated combination.
Selkirk Centennial Community Hall hosts its monthly spaghetti dinner Thursday from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Someone else cooks, and that's reason enough to go.
