Good Morning, Haldimand County

Here's What's Happening in Haldimand County This Week

Labour Day weekend may be over, but Haldimand County apparently has no intention of spending the week recovering quietly. The calendar is packed again with markets, classic cars, cards, clubs and enough community activities to keep you busy right through Thursday.

Farmers markets are still going strong, with Dunnville open Tuesday afternoon, Hagersville Wednesday morning and Caledonia Thursday afternoon. If classic cars are more your thing, Scoops Diner hosts Cool & Classic Car Night Wednesday at the Caledonia Fairgrounds, while Three Seasons Ice Cream Parlour welcomes the classics Thursday evening in Selkirk. Cars and ice cream continue to be one of Haldimand County’s more successful partnerships.

There are plenty of reasons to shuffle a deck this week too. Hoss is back at the Hagersville Legion, with another game Thursday in Fisherville. Euchre is happening at the Dunnville and Caledonia Legions and at Just John’s, while Muck’s is hosting a euchre tournament Wednesday night. Caledonia’s Legion also has Catch the Ace Wednesday, and Julia’s Charity in Dunnville is now boasting a jackpot of around $13,000. Suddenly five bucks feels a little more interesting.

Prefer to actually move around? Hagersville has drop-in lawn bowling, Fisherville has cornhole, Caledonia has darts and Toronto Motorsports Park has Open Car Lapping. Cypress 55+ also has a busy few days with yoga, bingo, tai chi, Dance Fit, shuffleboard and more.

There are quieter options too, including knitting clubs in Dunnville, Hagersville and Jarvis, the Caledonia Book Club, Cottonwood Mansion tours and the Haldimand Photography Club.

And if you’ve ever wondered how many different ways Haldimand County can fill a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the answer appears to be all of them.

Julia’s Charity’s Catch the Ace jackpot is now around $13,000. Tickets are just $5 and available online or at the charity seven days a week. Five bucks for the possibility of $13,000 is the kind of math we can get behind.

The Dunnville Knitting Club meets at the library Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. Bring whatever’s on your needles and enjoy an afternoon with fellow knitters.

The Over 60 Euchre Club meets at the Dunnville Optimist Club Thursday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Apparently Wednesday’s euchre was just the warm-up.

The Mattress Man

Custom spaces deserve better than “close enough.” The Mattress Man builds made-to-measure mattresses for RVs, trailers, boats, and hard-to-fit spaces. Skip the big-box workaround and get the exact size you need, built locally. Right now, you’ll save the usual 20% customization fee, so custom doesn’t come with a penalty. Bring your measurements, your odd angles, your weird bunk layout… we’ve seen it all and built for it.
