Good Morning, Haldimand County!

Here's What's Happening in Haldimand County This Weekend

Winter may still be hanging around, but the countdown is officially on. There are only 14 more days until spring. Not that anyone in Haldimand County is counting… except every single person who has shoveled a driveway since January.

The good news is that even if the weather hasn’t fully gotten the memo yet, the community calendar definitely has. Things are starting to wake up again around the county. Bars and restaurants are coming out of hibernation with more live music popping up, trivia nights are filling tables again, and community halls and arenas are back to doing what they do best: giving people somewhere to go besides the couch.

This is that time of year when you can feel things starting to shift. Event organizers are dusting off plans, community groups are hosting fundraisers, and musicians are loading their gear back into bars that suddenly look a little busier than they did a few weeks ago. After a long stretch of winter, it turns out people are pretty ready to get out and see other humans again.

And speaking of humans, we’d love to hear from you. If you’re planning an event, spotted something fun happening around town, or just want to tell us what you’re most excited about this spring, hit reply and let us know. A lot of what ends up in this newsletter starts with readers tipping us off.

With spring only two weeks away, the momentum is building. So if you’ve been meaning to get out more, consider this your official nudge.

Here’s what’s happening around Haldimand County this week.

BIRTHDAY SHOUTOUTS

Happy Birthday to Jerry McKenzie, who celebrated the big 9-0 on February 28. Born in a leap year, Jerry has technically only had about 22 real birthdays, which means he’s doing a pretty good job of stretching them out. In 90 years, he’s seen a few things: telephones with cords, TVs with two channels, and gas priced at 25c/gallon. Jerry and his wife Marion are familiar faces at Chalmers Presbyterian Stone Church in Walpole. Happy Birthday, Jerry. At this pace, 100 is only a couple of birthdays away.
