Good Morning, Haldimand County

Here's What's Happening in Haldimand County This Week

Well, here we are. Election Day is behind us, Halloween is just around the corner, and somewhere in Haldimand County, someone is already wondering whether it's too early to put up Christmas decorations. For the record, yes. Let's give the pumpkins a fighting chance.

After months of campaign signs, debates, door knocking and spirited conversations about the future of our county, the municipal election is finally over. Whether you're celebrating the results, disappointed by them or simply relieved that your lawn signs can come down, there's one thing we can probably all agree on: it's been quite a campaign.

Congratulations to everyone who put their name forward. Running for public office takes courage, time and a willingness to have your every decision questioned by people you've never met. We hope the next four years bring plenty of productive conversations and a little more cooperation along the way.

Meanwhile, Halloween is sneaking up on us, and there's no shortage of ways to get into the spirit. Ruthven Park is embracing its spooky side with haunted tours and high tea, Caledonia has a Halloween bash for the kids, and even the Cayuga Book Club has chosen something suitably creepy.

If ghosts and goblins aren't your thing, there's plenty else happening. We've got cards, pickleball, trivia, live community gatherings and opportunities to get involved. Cayuga's volunteer firefighter information night might even inspire someone to take on a whole new challenge.

And a special nod to the volunteers being celebrated at Thursday's Haldimand County Volunteer Recognition Night. So much of what makes this community tick happens because people generously give their time, often without expecting any recognition at all.

Now, let's see what's happening around Haldimand County this week!
